COMPANY PROFILE

RAD-TEL (PNG) LTD began operation in November 1990, after acquiring the assets and operational facilities of PHILIPS TDS who operated since 1975 in Papua New Guinea.  At the date of commencement, RAD-TEL occupied a leased premise in Port Moresby and had branch offices in Lae and employed 18 staff.  In November 1991 RAD-TEL purchased a property in Port Moresby which houses the company administration, technical support workshops and service section, as well as supply warehouse. 

Staffing

Currently the company employs eleven qualified technical tradesman and technical officers, three apprentices, two trades assistances, eleven administration and support personnel, sales and management staff.  All management staff, including sales and branch managers holds technical qualifications.

All key positions are currently occupied by expatriate employees. Rad-Tel [PNG] Ltd. currently employs three Filipino Electronic and Communications Engineers, one is in charged in the company technical Division in the main office, one is managing the branch operation  in LAE, Morobe Province. And the other engineer is in-charged in the IT and Technical Sales Department. Finance and Administration division is also managed by a Filipino Expatriate.

Marketing and Sales Department is operating under the leadership of one experienced expatriate Chinese nationals.

The Capabilities

In order to meet our policy of servicing, maintaining and supporting every product line we sell, we maintain a comprehensive service center in Port Moresby.  This service is supported by our store which holds generous stocks of spares and commercial products.  Regional service is carried out at our Lae branch.  This branch is able to handle most field service requirements for New Guinea side of PNG.  As well as our own product lines, we are able to service most brands of communications equipment.  We have experienced and well-qualified staff who can provide systems design advice and where required and engineer complete “turnkey” systems.  We provide communication systems management, feasibility studies and performance predictions.

Experience

RAD-TEL currently owns and operates three remote sites communication facilities throughout Papua New Guinea, including 1 at elevations over 6000 feet served by helicopter access.  Two major sites in Port Moresby are occupied by over 70 repeater systems.  We have provided systems to major mining projects including OK TEDI, HIDES Gas Field, Napanapa Oil Refinery. Ramu Nico Management (MCC), Highlands Kainantu and Lihir Gold. Rad-Tel [PNG] Ltd., just recently, engaged in installation of communication equipments in the entire Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Government Departments and Statutory Body including National Disaster and Emergency Services, Health, Education, Petroleum, PNG Power, Telikom PNG, PNG Water board, Provincial Affairs, The Prime Minster Office, The Magisterial chain of offices around Papua New Guinea were also using our services and equipments. Apart from radio and telephone communication systems, RAD-TEL has considerable experience with office automation systems and computer systems and network data systems.
